I have several plans to revitalize business at Pioneer Place, some are longer term plans some are shorter term.
The first plan is to build homeless shelters in the south east. This will help draw the homeless out of downtown which will make the shopping experience more friendly for tourists, as well as locals.
The second plan is to eliminate paid parking. The short term plan will be to eliminate paid parking on the weekends downtown, and possibly the week nights. This will create a more inviting environment for customers to come downtown. In the long term all paid paring will be eliminated.
The third plan is to work with the clothing stores downtown and have them starting clustering together primarily in pioneer place or 23rd. Right now there are several stores that are scattered around downtown, some near powells for example as well as elsewhere. My vision is to have them all in pioneer place, or 23rd. For customers it is better when clothing stores are clustered together as they can make one trip and go to several stores. For stores it is better as well as there is often overflow customers, a customer will go to one store but then since they are already there go to the others.
The fourth plan is to work on some of the traffic signals downtown. It is often difficult to take left hand turns on Burnside to get to Pioneer Place if your coming from the Eastside, possibly having some more left hand turns could increase traffic flow and create a more inviting experience. Their may be other ways to improve traffic flow downtown.
